Mumbai: Hindi cinema actor Govinda turns 57 today.
Govinda is one of India’s most loved actors thanks to his superhit comedy films in the 1990s. Govinda is known as much for his superb comedic timing as he is for his distinct dance moves.
The actor has received 12 Filmfare Awards nominations, a Filmfare special Award, a Filmfare Award for Best Comedian and four Zee Cine Awards among other accolades.
As most actors grab the headlines for their personal life, Govinda has been quite private and reserved with his life off the screen.
Govinda tied the knot with his childhood friend Sunita in the year 1987 but there was one incident in his life that created a lot of buzz back in the day.
According to several reports, Sunita was not the only love interest of Govinda. He was also rumoured to be in love with his Ilzaam co-star Neelam Kothari. Govinda and Neelam starred in a number of hit films thanks to their great on-screen chemistry.
Govinda has himself confessed in an interview that he fell in love with Neelam during the shootings of many of their films. Govinda admitted that Neelam was an ‘ideal girl’ and he wanted to marry her.
But when Neelam and Govinda were working together, the latter was already dating Sunita. There were a lot of fights between the two during that time. According to one report, Govinda had even broken off his engagement with Sunita to be with Neelam. But Govinda’s mother convinced him to marry Sunita insted.
Apart from Neelam, Govinda was also rumoured to be dating Rani Mukerji. The two actors reportedly developed a relationship during the shoot of Had Kar Di Apne but soon called it off after Sunita threatened to walk out of the marriage.
On the professional front, fans are waiting for Govinda to make his comeback to mainstream cinema once again.
