BJP, BJD mudslinging over jobs

Bhubaneswar: Blaming each other for rising unemployment of youths in the state, BJD and BJP Monday staged protest at several places in the state.
It appears that both the parties are trying their best to woo young voters ahead of the 2019 general elections. On Monday, the ruling BJD activists staged demonstrations before the offices of Central PSUs in Ganjam and Koraput districts while BJP locked down employment exchanges. BJD activists have planned to continue such demonstrations at Central PSUs in other districts during November 6 and 8, party sources said.
Gopalpur MLA and Ganjam district BJD president Pradeep Panigrahy said, “The Modi government has always spread lies and made false promises. Before becoming the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has promised to give 2 crore job opportunities every year. However, he failed to do so.”
“Modi had also promised that `15 lakh will be transferred to the bank accounts of poor. What happened to this? Where is the money?” he asked. On the other hand, state BJP youth wing president Tankadhar Tripathy slammed the BJD government and said the state has failed to provide employment to youths. As a result, youths are migrating to other states and work as bonded labourers.
In 2008, the government had decided to engage 90 per cent unskilled, 60 per cent semiskilled and 30 per cent skilled local youths in the industries of Odisha, he said, adding, “The BJD government has failed to fulfil its promises.”
