BJP, BJD spar over CBI, police summons to leaders

Bhubaneswar: A day after media reports about CBI summoning two BJD leaders and police slapping notices on two BJP leaders, the two parties Wednesday blamed each other for misuse of investigating agencies.
Hours after the news flash Tuesday that the CBI has summoned BJD MLAs Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak and Arun Sahoo over chit fund scam, Chhatrapur police issued notices to BJP leaders Golok Mohapatra and Bhrugu Baxipatra in connection with BJD councilor Laxmidutta Pradhan murder case. While the BJD alleged that BJP is misusing CBI, the saffron party claimed that the BJD government has misused the police for its political gain.
BJD spokesperson Samir Das said, “Whenever Shah makes a visit to the state, the CBI becomes active and issues notices to BJD leaders. There is no doubt that CBI has become a political tool of the Centre.”
BJP leader Mohapatra said, “Soon after the CBI issues notices to BJD leaders, the police issued notices to me and Baxipatra. During past one and half years, where was the police? This clearly indicates that BJD is misusing the police for its political gain.”
Meanwhile, a delegation of state BJP led by president Basant Panda met Development Commissioner and Home Secretary Asit Tripathy demanding transfer of IG Amitabh Thakur & DIG Ashish Singh accusing them of working at the behest of state government. The party said transfer of the two cops is necessary for free and fair polls.
However, State Congress president Niranjan Patnaik slammed both the parties for misusing investigating agencies to settle political scores.
