Bhubaneswar: Alleging a ‘massive scam’ in the allocation of PMAY houses in Odisha, the BJP Monday demanded CBI probe into the alleged irregularities.

Speaking to reporters here, state BJP general secretary Prithviraj Harichandan alleged that poor people of Odisha were deprived of houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) for three years due to the inefficacy of the BJD government.

Rejecting the BJD’s allegation that BJP MPs have conspired to stop PMAY in Odisha, he said, due to the faulty beneficiary list prepared by the state government in 2019, the people have not been able to get a house till now.

He alleged that the government has excluded many eligible beneficiaries and included ineligible people in the list. That’s why it was delayed.

Harichandan accused the ruling BJD of enacting a new political drama instead of implementing the PMAY to hide its own inefficiency ahead of 2024 polls. Its aim is to mislead the people, he said.

Due to the effort of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, the Centre has sanctioned 9.59 lakh houses for Odisha. However, the state government is sitting idle without issuing work orders till now, he said.

The BJP leader asked the BJD government why it has conducted surveys three times and what action has been taken on the grievances lodged by the people.

Harichandan further alleged that BJD leaders are collecting money from people for allotting houses under the scheme. Therefore, the state government should order a CBI probe into the ‘scam’ for transparency and take strong action against all those who were involved in it, he demanded.
