Bhubaneswar, March 13: Accusing the state government of not taking the issue of women’s safety seriously, the state unit of the BJP staged a demonstration outside Raj Bhawan and submitted a memorandum to Governor SC Jamir seeking his intervention.
“Day by day, crimes against women are rising in the state,” president of the BJP state unit’s women wing Simantini Jena said.
“Recently, four minor girls studying at SC/ST schools became mothers, but the government is a mute spectator,” Simantini added.
“There has been a series of horrifying incidents of violence, crime and harassment against women over the last few years and more so in the last few months,” she said.
“The BJD government is disinclined to improve the prevailing conditions,” the memorandum to the Governor said.
“If the government cannot protect the women and girls of the state, then we believe the ruling BJD
has forfeited the right to be in
government,” the memorandum said.
