BJP leader shot dead in Kashmir

Srinagar: Militants shot dead a Bharatiya Janata Party leader in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district here, Saturday.

Police sources said militants shot and critically injured a BJP leader in Verinag area of Anantnag district.

“The injured BJP vice president of Anantnag district, Gul Muhammad Mir, was critically injured after militants fired at him in Nowgam village of Verinag area today,” police sources revealed. “He was shifted to hospital where he succumbed. The are has been surrounded for searches.”

The BJP’s Jammu and Kashmir united expressed its deepest condolences in a statement and demanded strictest possible action against “ill elements who are spoiling peace in the valley and killing innocent people.”

“Ghulam Mohd Mir, office bearer of the BJP in South Kashmir has been shot & killed in Nowgam, Verinag. I condemn this dastardly act of violence & pray for the soul of the departed. May his soul rest in peace,” Omar Abdullah tweeted.

PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti has also condemned the killing.

“I strongly condemn the killing of BJP leader Gul Muhammad Mir in Verinag, South Kashmir. My condolences to the bereaved family and prayers for the departed soul,” she tweeted.
