New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has closed down its official website temporarily, Tuesday, after it was hacked. Even though no one has claimed responsibility, sources close to the party stated that it is the handiwork of Pak hackers.
The matter came to light after screenshots of the homepage of the ‘www.bjp.org’ went viral on the social media with a meme of Prime Minister Narendra Modi alongside Germany Chancellor Angela Merkel and an expletive-laden message.
“We will be back soon,” has been the announcement on the homepage from the admin and it also states that site will be operational soon.
The meme has been done to belittle Modi. It shows Modi extending his hand to shake it with Merkel who walks past. The caption reads, “Brothers and sisters I have fooled all of you. Brothers and sisters we’ve fooled all of you. More to come! Many Many congratulations.”
Sources also said that the hackers had also posted objectionable comments regarding Kashmir and also said ‘The Indian government will be taught a proper lesson if it doesn’t change its stance regarding Kashmir’.
It should be added here that since the Pulwama terror attack February 14, the Indian government has banned a number of political parties in Kashmir and has also arrested top leaders of the Jaamat.
The party however, is yet to officially comment on whether it was a hacking attempt or the site was undergoing maintenance. Earlier media reports said that nearly 70 Indian government websites were targeted by hackers.
