Bhubaneswar: The national leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Sunday repeatedly dodged questions relating to pre- or post-alliance prospects of the party in the 2019 elections.
Party national general secretary, Bhupendra Yadav, who interacted with the media here to inform about the resolutions adopted at the recently conducted BJP national-level meet in Delhi seemed reluctant to answer in detail on alliance plans even after the issue was repeatedly raised by reporters.
The leader also avoided questions on why Prime Minister Narendra Modi had shied from criticising BJD chief and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik during his last three public rallies in Odisha. When asked about the PM’s soft stance towards Patnaik, Yadav said, “This is your personal observation.”
When asked if the BJP is in talk with the BJD for a post-poll alliance, Yadav rubbished the question as “fictitious”. “No such talks are on. We are confident of forming the government independently without any support,” Yadav said.
However, the Rajya Sabha member launched a scathing attack on the BJD government in Odisha. “The BJD government has failed to provide benefits of various Central schemes to the people at the grassroots level. Benefits of many such schemes are yet to reach the people of Odisha,” Yadav pointed out, adding, “So we are determined to form our government in Odisha and ensure that Central schemes really reach the people here.”
Yadav said that currently he is touring different states to spread awareness on the resolutions adopted at the party’s national executive meet. “I am travelling to different states to reach out to the people to spread awareness on the resolutions adopted at the meet. The resolutions are related to the hike of MSP, work done by our PM and the pro-people initiatives taken by our government,” he informed.
