BJP women workers booked for attacking Aahar centre

Bolangir: Cracking its whip, police Saturday registered a case and summoned 10 members of BJP women’s wing after the latter allegedly ransacked an Aahar centre and destroyed cooked food Wednesday.

The women members appeared in the police station after the latter registered a case over a complaint by Pragati self-help group, managing the food distribution programme in the Aahar centre. The act of destroying food by the party members has drawn flak from various quarters.

The SHG members informed the executive officer of the Bolangir Municipality who in turn lodged a complaint in the Town police station.
There the police officials explained them about registration of a case and asked them to refrain from such vandalism again. This has caught the party on wrong foot when it is preparing with strength and has stepped up its campaign for the upcoming panchayat election.

The incident occurred Wednesday when the women members barged inside the Aahar centre and stirred up an uproar alleging distribution of low quality food and less in quantity than the prescribed limits.

Incensed the women members snatched away the key of the store room and destroyed cooked for over 250 persons by hurling them here and there. When contacted, Sadar SDPO Saroj Kumar Mohapatra assured of further action after issuing the notice.  PNN
