BJP worker arrested for abusing lady traffic constable

Bhubaneswar: In a major embarrassment for the BJP in Odisha, the Nayapalli police arrested the BJP’s Nayapalli Mandal President Susant Kumar Nayak.

Police said he was arrested for hurling abuses on a lady traffic constable at Sachivalaya Marg Thursday night. He was in a inebriated state.

The incident took place when Nayak violated traffic norms near Red Cross Bhavan at around 9:30 pm. When an on-duty traffic constable stopped him over the alleged violation, Nayak responded with abuse and assault.

He said that he is a senior member of Bhubaneswar unit of BJP and the cop will face dire consequences if she penalises him.

The matter turned ugly as Nayak started hurling abuses following which the woman-cop called up the PCR van. The man was taken to Kharvel Nagar police station where the policewoman lodged a formal complaint against Nayak.

“The man abused and assaulted on-duty traffic personnel. On the basis of her complaint, a case has been registered and the accused has been booked under Sections 332 and 353 of the IPC,” DCP Anup Sahoo said.
