Rourkela, April 29: Rapid category champion GM Debashis Das could not emulate his success in the Blitz segment and finished fourth with 7.5 points in the National Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships, which concluded here Wednesday. The Orissa star had to be satisfied with the fourth place finish despite a convincing victory against Sayan Bose of West Bengal in the 11th and final round.
IM K Rathnakaran of Railways emerged champion with 8.5 points. Rathnakaran lost against GM Neelotpal Das of West Bengal but the defeat did not have any impact on his title triumph. Neelotpal bagged second position with eight points. IM Diptayan Ghosh of West Bengal also garnered eight points but finished third on the basis of tie-breaker points.
Earlier Debashis had clinched the title in the Rapid segment with 9.5 points.
