Block grant teachers who struck work to lose pay

Bhubaneswar: The state government has decided to adopt ‘No Work, No Pay’ policy for block grant teachers and lecturers who are striking work, an official said Thursday.

Teachers, lecturers and other employees of 4,000 block grant schools and 1500 colleges had resumed duty September 24 after a 42-day strike.

“The government has decided to adopt ‘No Work, No Pay’ policy towards officers or officials who participated in the strike, neglecting their official assignments,” additional secretary, School and Mass Education Department, Prabhat Kumar Bhoi said in a letter to all directors of the department.

Bhoi instructed the directors to report compliance to the department for appraisal by the secretary. Though the teachers have started attending classes, they continue to protest wearing black badges to press for their demands. They have been demanding salary equal to teachers of government schools and colleges.
