Blue Flag tag: Puri beach to see massive infra boost

Puri: The sea beach of the Holy City, which has been accorded with the Blue Flag tag recently, is all set to have massive infrastructure development in near future.

A six member team comprising officials from Odisha State Coastal Region Management Authority and a private firm from Delhi has recently surveyed a stretch of the beach from Raj Bhawan to Hotel Mayfair to identify suitable places for various projects.

The team has examined all aspects related to cleanliness on the beach and safety of sea bathers.

According to sources, the team has identified a few places for safe bathing for the tourists. Moreover, the team has identified suitable places on the beach to set up changing rooms, separate toilets for men and women and drinking water kiosks for the tourists.

Apart from that, the team has conducted a survey to set up a garbage management system on the beach. “The team has also identified suitable places for seating arrangement, jogging tracks and a first-aid centre for the tourists,” said an official of the district administration.

It is learnt that the city beach would have a fitness centre, wheel chairs, CCTV surveillance system, awareness signage, cleaning machines and a solar plant as part of the infrastructure upgradation programme.

“All these projects have received the Coastal Regulation Zone clearance,” said the official.

According to sources, a high-level delegation from Denmark-based Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) would soon visit the beach to look into issues related to cleanliness and safety.
