Bhubaneswar, Oct 1: Following a direction issued by the state government, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Wednesday conducted drive to capture stray dogs on Secretariat premises. However, the dog catching squad of the civic body was able to capture only seven dogs from the Secretariat.
“Today our dog catching team conducted a drive on Secretariat premises and captured seven dogs,” BMC additional commissioner Alok Kar said.
When asked about the small number, he said, “The dogs are very clever. They ran away from the premises before the vehicle and the team reached the spot.”
However, the BMC would conduct more such drives in the Secretariat in future, he added.  Sources said around 40 dogs dwell inside the headquarters building.
Stating that stray dogs were roaming freely on the Secretariat premises and making the corridors, yards, roads, canteens dirty, the general administration department had asked the BMC to remove the dogs soon.
