Bhubaneswar, March 30: A Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) employee committed suicide by hanging himself from a water pipe on the building premises Monday morning.
Police said Jalandhar Nayak (45), a resident of Bhimatangi, was working as a peon in the dairy section of the Corporation office. His body was found by staffers who came to work. It was taken to Capital Hospital for postmortem by Badagada police.
One of Nayak’s sons told Orissa Post at the hospital, “We don’t know what happened. There was no issue at home.” According to sources, Nayak had some differences with one of his seniors which put him through a lot of mental agony.
Badagada police said they did not find any satisfactory answer from the employees. “They are not telling us anything clearly. There is a lot of anomaly in their statements,” one of the cops said on condition of anonymity. The investigation is still on, he added.
However, the BMC has issued a statement that there was no foul play in the death.
BMC establishment officer Aradhana Das said, “Nayak’s sucide has nothing to do with BMC’s administration or work environment. He might have some domestic problems.” But, Das could not answer why Nayak allegedly hanged himself on the BMC’s premises if he had some domestic issues.
