Rourkela: Police have recovered the body of a girl from under a culvert in Pokarama area of Rayabaga village near here in Sundargarh district.
Locals suspect the woman was raped and killed before the body was left under the culvert.
Some locals spotted the body Tuesday evening and alerted the police. The cops reached the village along with a scientific team and sent the body for autopsy.
An alcohol bottle and a blood-stained stone have been recovered from the scene.
“From preliminary investigations, it appears the girl was subjected to physical assault and then murdered,” police said.
In a similar incident, June 19, the bare and mutilated bodies of two women were recovered from Balasore and Ganjam districts.
In Balasore, locals spotted the body on National Highway-16 near Dahisada panchayat office in Soro area. Preliminary inquiries suggested rape and murder.
In the other incident, the naked body of a woman aged between 30 and 40 was recovered with injury marks from near an ashram on Ralaba Road near Golanthara in Ganjam district. Police suspect she was raped and murdered.
