Bolangir bag Sahani Cup title

Bolangir: Bolangir clinched the title of 58th Senior Men’s Inter-District Football Championships for Sahani Cup after scraping past Bhubaneswar 3-2 in a thrilling final here, Sunday.

Hosts Bolangir broke the deadlock in the 26th minute through Sourav Ranjan Hanuman. Sourav struck again four minutes later to make the score 2-0.

Then a defensive error from Bhubaneswar defenders allowed Bolangir to go 3-0 ahead as Rajak Nag found the back of the net in the 33rd minute.

However, the visitors turned the game after the break and made some aggressive moves. Their aggression paid off when Sasikant Sandil scored in the 71st minute.

But it was Chita Ranjan Pradhan who changed the momentum when he reduced the deficit to one goal.  The visitors tried their best to pull out the equaliser but Bolangir held on to their nerves to ensure victory.

Chand Club triumph

Chand Club emerged champions of the Kailash Chandra Das Memorial U-17 boys’ football tournament after thrashing Jay Durga Club (JDC) 3-0, thanks to a brace by Sk Rizwan, at the Reserve Police Ground here, Sunday.

Rizwan broke the deadlock in the 22nd and then Sk Farid put the leaders ahead by two goals in the 38th minute. Rizwan completed the rout with a 58th-minute strike, his second of the match, to claim the title.

Rizwan was adjudged player of the match and player of the tournament award.

Chand Club’s Abdul Farid, Sahil Khan and Sukul Hembram were adjudged the best goalkeeper, best defender and promising player of the tournament respectively. JDC’s Ranjit Singh and Atif Ali bagged the best midfielder and striker of the tournament awards respectively.
