Bomikhal ROB Collapse: Probe team seeks 10 more days to submit report

Bhubaneswar: A high-level committee constituted by the state government to probe the Bomikhal road over-bridge (ROB) collapse case has sought 10 more days to submit its report.

“As the panel has sent some materials like soil and steel roads for quality testing and has not received the reports, it has sought 10 more days for submission of the report. The government has approved its request and asked it to submit the report by September 30,” a senior official of Works department told Orissa POST, Wednesday.

Earlier, the panel comprising chief engineer (Roads) and chief engineer (Design) has been asked to submit the report within a week.  In view of the sensitivity of the issue, none of the members of the panel has revealed anything about the findings so far.

Sources said the report would cite the reason behind the collapse of the ROB and name the person/s responsible for it. Prima facie, the committee has found gross irregularities by the contractor Panda Infra project (India) Private Limited and also by the supervising officers.

The team has also found some faults in centering and materials used for supporting the centering for the slab that caved in. The panel would also give some recommendations to avoid such incidents in future, the sources said.

Notably, the under construction flyover at Bomikhal had collapsed September 10 this year, killing one person on the spot and injuring 12 others. The incident created a hue and cry in the Capital as well as across the state. Four persons – two from the construction company and two engineering staff of Works department – have been arrested so far.
