Boney Kapoor’s Rs 30cr goes down drain as cyclone Tauktae destroys ‘Maidaan’ set

Mumbai: Cyclone Tauktae which recently hit film city Mumbai has left a trail of destructions. Many producers had to suffer huge loss as many film sets have been damaged during the cyclone.

Among those producers who suffered huge loss is producer Boney Kapoor after the set of Ajay Devgn’s ‘Maidaan’ was destroyed completely in the cyclone. According to reports, the storm has completely destroyed the set.

If reports are to be believed, Boney Kapoor had already spent a whopping Rs 30 crore. Prior to this the set was dismantled due to covid. Furthermore, the delay due to covid is adding to Boney Kapoor’s woes.

Speaking about it, Boney Kapoor told ETimes in an exclusive interview, “The sets have been completely damaged and I will be rebuilding it for the third time.”

“We had to dismantle the set for the first time when the first lockdown happened, we had to reconstruct the set again and if the lockdown had not happened we would’ve completed the shooting of the film.” He said.

“The entire set is gone except the pitch. Though the pitch, too, has suffered some damage, the curator has assured us that he will manage to salvage it. But we have already incurred an expense of Rs 30 cr and work is still pending,” he added.

The film slated for a Dussehra release this year is being directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma. With Ajay Devgn in the lead, the movie also stars actress Priyamani, Gajraj Rao and Rudranil Ghosh. Maidaan is expected to release in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam.
