Bhubaneswar, March 17: The Khurda district administration has decided to pay tribute to the legendary Oriya music director and singer Akshaya Mohanty. The authorities have decided to bring out a book on his life. The book will cover all the feats achieved by the luminary during his lifetime.
Mohanty was a multi-faceted personality from this state. Though mostly popular as a singer and composer, he had also tried his hands in lyrics. He also wrote a few novels, short stories, poems and a travelogue, some of which were well appreciated in the literary circle of the state.
For the book project, the district administration has formed two sub committees – one to look into Mohanty’s music and the other to focus on his literary works. The administration is also mulling to prepare a CD on him. The government has allocated `2 lakh for the project. The government may shell out more money, if needed, for the project.
A professor from the Utkal University, Pritesh Kumar Bishi, said, “He was popularly known as Khoka Bhai among many people; he was a singer of modern light songs, bhajans and folk songs. He has also been a significant contributor to the world of Oriya literature.”
“The book will be an encyclopedia on the life of Mohanty. It will also contain his unpublished works. The sub-committees have been asked to do an in-depth study and submit a detailed report on his works,” said, collector of Cuttack Nirmal Mishra.
