Brahma Paribartan fiasco probe: Oppn slams govt for not making report public

BJP leaders Golak Mohapatra, Pitambar Acharya and Samir Mohanty address the media in Bhubaneswar, Friday

Bhubaneswar: Just a day after Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) denied making Brahma Parivartan Fiasco report public even through RTI queries, opposition Congress and BJP Friday slammed the government for taking such a decision.

Terming the move as unconstitutional and a violation of basic human rights, BJP has decided to knock the doors of the high court, while the Congress criticised BJD government over the issue.

Talking to the media here, state BJP spokesperson Pitambar Acharya, said, “With this decision, the state government is trying to hoodwink the people of Odisha by disobeying the Supreme Court’s order and violating the human rights. The decision proves that the allegation regarding Brahma Paribartan fiasco is true.”

If the state government acknowledges that the report is sensitive, the incident of Brahma Paribartan fiasco is true. However, the state government had been denying it so far, he said. The BJP leader alleged that they have taken this decision as the disclosure of the probe report would unmask the real face of the government.

If the government does not make the report public within a week, the BJP will file a PIL in the high court to ensure justice to devotes, Acharya added.

Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra said the decision is very unfortunate. “How can a fiasco happening inside the temple be a secret? However, without seeing the report, how one can whether one is guilty or not?”

Similarly, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Niranjan Patnaik, in his Tweeter handle, said, “Mahaprabhu Jagannath is loved and worshipped by people all across the world. By not revealing the report on Bhahma Parivartan fiasco, the BJD government has painted a grim picture of Odisha to the world.”

Stating the news of missing Ratna Bhandar key came to the fore after the Bhahma Parivartan fiasco, Patnaik said, “Is there a connection between these two events? We will never know without the investigation report being made public.”

However, BJD spokesperson Arun Sahoo said the decision of the Jagannath temple managing committee is unquestionable and the state government has no say in the matter. BJP is ‘unnecessarily’ trying to drag the state government into a controversy, he added.
