Bhubaneswar: Former Lok Sabha MP Braj Mohan Ram has been appointed as the new Governor of Odisha by President Droupadi Murmu, the Rashtrapati Bhavan announced Monday.
Ram’s appointment is part of a gubernatorial reshuffle involving six states. He will succeed Hari Babu Kambhampati, who has held the post since January 2025.
Political career
A member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Ram has served in both the Bihar Legislative Assembly and the Lok Sabha.
He represented the Palamu constituency in the Lok Sabha for three consecutive terms, winning the 1996, 1998 and 1999 general elections. Palamu was part of undivided Bihar before Jharkhand became a separate state in 2000.
Before his parliamentary career, Ram served as a member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly from 1991 to 1995. He also held organisational responsibilities within the BJP, including serving as the party’s Scheduled Caste Morcha in-charge in Jharkhand.
