Birmingham: West Indies opener Kraigg Brathwaite has been reported for a suspect bowling action during an innings and 209-run defeat by England in the first Test here at Edgbaston, Sunday.
The lanky right handed batsman who occasionally bowls off-spin bowled just six wicketless overs for the exact number of runs as England surged to a thumping win within three days as his side crumbled like a heap of cards in front of a roaring English bowling attack.
“The ‘match officials’ report, which was handed over to the Windies’ team management, cited concerns about the legality of the 24-year-old’s bowling action,” said an International Cricket Council (ICC) statement issued Sunday. However, Brathwaite remains free to bowl in international cricket which means he is available for selection in the second Test of the three match Test series starting at Headingly, Friday. According to ICC regulations the Test on his action will be taking place within a fortnight.
Brathwaite for the record has taken 12 wickets in his 38-old Test career with a best of 6/29 against Sri Lanka in Colombo in 2015.
