Brave act of 2 women saves fisherman from crocodile attack

Mahakalpara: Showing exceptional courage, two women Wednesday saved a fisherman from the jaw of death after he was attacked by a crocodile while fishing in the Kharinasi-Tubi Galia river Wednesday  morning. He was Kina Mandal(30) of Badatubi village under Mahakalpara block in Kendrapara district.

Sources said Mandal had gone to catch fish in the river. Meanwhile, a crocodile got caught in his fishing net. The crocodile bit him, seriously injuring his left hand. Later, the reptile tried to drag him into the water body.

In a bid to save his life, Mandal started shouting for help. Two women were catching fish from the canal nearby. When they heard his cry, both rushed and threw stones at the crocodile to scare it away. With the din and attack, the crocodile left his grab and went back into the waters.

He was then rescued by locals and admitted to the Ramnagar Primary Health Centre (CHC).

A team of forest officials on orders of ranger Bijay Kumar Parida reached the hospital and enquired about the condition of the fisherman. The officials also paid the necessary treatment and medicine expenses of Mandal.
