Kendrapara: In a tragic incident, a minor girl and her brother met their watery grave in a pond at Daanigiri village under Rajkanika police limits in Kendrapara district Monday. The deceased have been identified as Mamuni Behera (seven) and Biswajit Behera (three).

The two were playing while sitting on the bank of the pond. Somehow they slipped and fell into the pond and got drowned. As there were no other persons around, their cries of anguish went unnoticed and unheard.

Later, when their family members came searching for the two, they found the brother-sister duo missing. They searched for the two in the pond and fished out the bodies. The two kids were immediately rushed to Rajkanika community health centre (CHC). However, by then it was too late. The doctors pronounced them dead on arrival.

A pall of gloom descended in Daanigiri village once news of the tragic incident spread.

It should be stated here that three picnickers had drowned in Koel river in Sundargarh district while taking a bath December 20.  While two bodies were recovered the same day, the third one was fished out Monday.
