Balasore: Brown sugar, valued at Rs 1.2 crore, was seized from a house during a police raid in this district leading to the arrest of a woman.
This was the second major seizure of brown sugar in the district in less than 10 days.
A police team raided a house in Arad Bazaar under Sahadev Khunta police station limits late Tuesday night on the basis of a tip-off and seized the brown sugar weighing about 1.2 kg, Balasore superintendent of police (SP) Niti Sekhar said.
The police team led by inspector-in-charge of Sahadev Khunta police station Pragyan Mohanty, seized the brown sugar kept in small packets.
A woman, Sanwar Bibi, was arrested in this connection, the SP said.
Investigation is in progress to ascertain the woman’s links with drug racket, police said.
May 28 last, excise officials had seized 930 grams of brown sugar from the same area. PTI
