BSCL gives away cycles to slum kids, peer leaders

Bhubaneswar: As a token of appreciation and love on the eve of the Festival of Lights, the Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL) gave away 20 bicycles to peer leaders (Pragati Sathis) and another five to underprivileged kids from slum areas in the city.

The BSCL gave away the bicycles under the ‘Gift-a-bicycle’ theme as part of the ‘Cyclegiri’ event Friday. The initiative aims at popularising cycling in Temple city.

The BSCL gifted away the cycles to peer leaders of the Socially Smart Bhubaneswar Project for their dedicated service in creating awareness on Covid-19 among people residing under the jurisdiction of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC).

On the other hand, five cycles were given away to slum children who want to have cycles passionately, but are unable to arrange them due to financial difficulties. The free bicycles came as a surprise gift for the kids on the eve of Diwali festival, which is coinciding with the Children’s Day.

It is worth mentioning here that the BSCL is organising ‘Cyclegiri’ every Friday. The weekly event was launched following a cyclathon October 9.

In the prevailing scenario, physical activities are considered as a major initiative for building immunity against virus infection. The cycle-centric activities by the city authorities have created a new craze among the citizens to maintain fitness and good health.

Senior officials of BSCL and BMC were present at the Friday’s event at a Smart Park in Sahid Nagar area of the city.
