Kuanrmunda: A Border Security Force (BSF) personnel was killed after his scooter was hit by a trailer on National Highway 143 near Alexander Government School under Biramitrapur police limits in Sundaragada district.
The incident took place late Monday night.
The deceased was identified as Batur Bhagat, 47, of Kardega village in Nuagaon block. He died on the spot, police said. According to police, Bhagat was returning home after attending a Karma Puja at a relative’s house in the Barabansh area of Biramitrapur when the accident occurred. News of the accident led local residents to block the highway throughout the night demanding action against the vehicle involved.
Police recovered the body Tuesday morning and sent it to the Kuanrmunda Community Health Centre for post-mortem before handing it over to the family. Police registered a case and launched a search for the trailer, which had fled the scene after the accident. Bhagat had been on leave since September 16 to attend the Karma Puja festivities at home. He was accorded a guard of honour by the BSF at his native village of Kardega.
