Bhubaneswar, Feb 5: The makers of the historical film Buxi Jagabandhu: Paika Vidroh ended months of speculation Friday by announcing the director of the venture. Man Mohan Mohapatra is to direct the film.
Akshay Kumar Parija, the producer, and Anubhav Mohanty who is playing the role of Buxi Jagabandhu in the film, announced the selection at a press conference in the Capital.
Mohapatra, an eight-time national award-winner, has been roped in for the dream project of Akshay and Anubhav to provide it with a masterly touch.
Buxi Jagabandhu was the chief architect of the Paika rebellion of 1817. The film would explore the strong human spirit of Buxi, who had stood up to the aggression and might of the British Empire in India. This was a glorious moment in the history of the freedom movement in Orissa. It ushered in sentiments against the colonial master and paved the way for repelling the subjugators with intense fury.
The makers of the film will be assisted by a full team of experienced and award-winning cast and crew from the state, the nation and abroad.
Mohapatra, who hails from Khurdha, said he was feeling happy to be part of the venture. He hopes to give the historical facts that have not received recognition, to come out through the film on the 200th year of Paika rebellion.
