Bhubaneswar, Dec 29: The India Meteorological Department Monday issued a warning of a low-pressure area that had formed over north Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu coasts, adding that it might concentrate into a deep depression in the next 24 hours.
Met officials have predicted light to moderate rain and thundershowers along the coastal belt of the state as well as interior Orissa in the next 24 to 48 hours. The Met department has issued a warning of heavy rainfall at one or two places December 31.
Met director Sarat Sahu said the rainfall will continue till January 2. “The low pressure is expected to convert into a depression, which will trigger rainfall in parts of Orissa in the next 48 hours. A few parts might also receive heavy rainfall December 31,” he said.
The weatherman also predicted that the cold wave condition will continue to prevail across the state as the Met department has recorded the lowest temperature of 6.4 degree Celsius in Jharsuguda followed by 6.8 degree Celsius in Bhawanipatna in the past 24 hours.
The Met further predicted partly cloudy skies for the capital city and neighbouring areas, adding that light to moderate rain and thundershower would occur in the next 24 hours.
