Cuttack: Cambridge School, Cuttack eked out a narrow win Tuesday over Practicing Urdu School via penalty shootout in the inaugural match of theInter-School football tournament at the PM Academy School Ground in Cuttack. In another match, Joharimalla High School defeated Medical Public School by a solitary goal.
Biplab all-round show puts AG Orissa in final
An all-round show by all-rounder Bilab Samantaray (three wickets & 46 off 30b) helped AG Orissa sail into the final of the AE & AD cricket tournament at the KIIT Stadium here, Tuesday. The hosts defeated AG Assam by three wickets in the semifinals and will face AG West Bengal, who trounced AG Bihar by nine wickets in the other semifinal played on the day. The summit will be played, Wednesday.
Put into bat, Assam scored 225 runs in their allotted 40 overs. Sujay Tarafdar (53, 30b) and Subhrajit Sahu (50, 44b) scored half centuries, while Gokul Sharma (34) played a handy knock. For the hosts, Ranji stars Basant Mohanty and Biplab bagged three wickets each.
In reply, Orissa notched up the target with three wickets in hand. PR Sinha (65, 85b) scored a watchful half century while a scintillating knock by Biplab helped the hosts storm into the title clash.
Badminton tourney
Punjab University and Jain University emerged champions of the men’s and women’s categories respectively in the All India Inter-Zone badminton tournament which concluded at the KIIT campus, Tuesday. Andhra University and Delhi University finished second and third respectively in the men’s segment while in the women’s section it was Veer Narmad South University and RTM Nagpur University who took the second and third positions respectively.
