Bhubaneswar: With the mercury-level hovering over 40 degrees Celsius in most parts of the state for past two days, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Thursday issued warning on prevalence of heat wave condition in the coastal region.
Bhubaneswar recorded 43.2 degree C for the second consecutive day, while Cuttack city sizzled at 41.4 degree C against Wednesday’s temperature of 40.6 degree C. The state capital was followed by Hirakud (43.1), Titlagarh (42.5), Bhawanipatna (42.2), Bolangir and Talcher (42 each).
The temperature also went up to 40 degrees and above in Chandbali (41.7), Angul (40.9), Baripada (41.5), Jharsuguda (40), Keonjhar (40.3), Sambalpur (41.2) and Dhenkanal (41.1).
Sarat Chandra Sahu, the director, of the meteorological centre, Bhubaneswar, said the alarming rise in temperature in coastal Orissa is because of the flow of hot wind from the central and north-west India towards the state. He said IMD has issued warning of heat wave till Friday because of lack of rainfall.
