BHUBANESWAR: Orissa Environmental Society Bhubaneswar organised a seminar on to discuss measures to stop water wastage here Sunday.
Addressing the gathering, president of the society Sundar Narayan Patra said, “More than 70 percent of the surface of Earth is covered by water yet only 0.014 percent is useful for humanity. We have to share it with other living things as well.”
“However, unimaginable expansion of the population across the globe has prompted water scarcity. There will be a time when the world will fight for it and that day is going to be the dark chapter for humanity. Hence, every single human being should save water religiously and reutilise it whenever possible.”
Chief speaker of the seminar scientist Pramod Kumar Panda of Indian Water Administration department said, “Irresponsible use of water has led to the death of children who consume polluted water. It’s sad but true. The fact that water bottle business has reached to a stupendous 30,000 Crore is alarming. We can still manage this catastrophic situation .”
“We must be united and maintain hygiene as far as our ponds and wells are concerned. We must remember that water is life and it’s our responsibility to save life irrespective of geographical borders. Without it, all life forms including ours will perish,” he added.
Secretary of the OES Jaykrushana Panigrahi said, “We must be disciplined in our lifestyles and should conserve every drop of water to keep our future generations safe and healthy.”
The vote of thanks was proposed by Prakash Chandra Jena. The seminar witnessed an enthusiastic participation of intellectuals, students and corporate personnel.
