Bhubaneswar: In a bid to provide paperless services at government hospitals, the state government has initiated steps to rollout e-hospital system at Capital Hospital on pilot basis.
According to sources at health and family welfare department, the state government has decided to implement e-hospital system and Capital Hospital will be the first government-run hospital to adopt the system. Notably, paperless system was introduced at city-based All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) a few days back, the sources said.
It is a Government of India initiative and the system is managed by National Informatics Centre (NIC). The project has been successfully rolled out in 165 hospitals across the country so far, they added.
The health and family welfare department has put in place necessary arrangements for rollout of paperless service at three departments of Capital Hospital from 2017-18 financial year. A five-member panel was also formed to ensure proper execution of the new system.
“Once the system is implemented, doctors will be able to access the medical history of patients and all the records online,” he added.
The facilities would include availability of patient related records online. All the records including diagnosis of patients would get directly transferred to the doctors’ computers.
Besides, the system will enable patients to take appointments in the out-patient-department (OPD) and seek details of availability of blood and other laboratory reports online.
It will also help people make payments online while seeking appointments with doctors and diagnostics. The online system is expected to reduce rush at the hospital, which sees a footfall of nearly 700 patients every day, and bring forth more transparency in its management.
