Cuttack: The Crime Branch (CB) has come up with an action plan for police officers asking them to follow certain steps to ensure proper investigation in sensitive cases.
The CB has sent letters to all district range Inspectors General (IGs), Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs) to execute the action plan.
The CB has issued guidelines to all investigating officers (IOs) asking them to examine the call details record (CDR) of suspects within seven to 10 days of registering a case. The IOs will have to trace the suspects through mobile phone tracking. According to the action plan, the IOs will have to simultaneously examine the CDRs of all mobile calls, recorded from the nearest mobile tower of the crime scene. This can help them to zero in on suspects.
The action plan also lays stress on collection of post-mortem reports or medico legal reports pertaining to the case within three to seven days. All questioning sessions based on medico legal reports should conclude within 15 days, the letter said.
The next step of investigation suggests that IOs should recover weapons used for crimes within 15 days and to produce it in court as vital evidence against the accused.
The IOs have been directed to prepare a route map of the crime scene with the help of the local revenue inspector (RI) and to mention it in the case dairy or charge-sheet.
The CB has asked top police officials to stress these essential steps as they could help in increasing the conviction rate.
