Bhubaneswar/Baragada: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Thursday arrested a former branch postmaster of Bonda Post Office in Baragada district in connection with a post office savings fraud case.

Shabda Swain allegedly misappropriated Rs 13.98 lakh between 2008 and 2014 by failing to account for depositors’ money in official records and making false entries in passbooks. She had been absconding since charges were framed against her in 2015.

An NBW was issued against her in 2022. Acting on sustained efforts, the CBI apprehended Swain while she was attending a family function in Baragada. She is being produced before a designated court in Bhubaneswar.
