Bhubaneswar: Central Zone A emerged champions of the All India CRPF Inter-Zone hockey tournament after beating J&K A 3-1 in the final at the KIIT Ground here Saturday.
KIIT Founder and Rajya Sabha member Achyuta Samanta joined as the chief guest and distributed the prizes. Also present was OTDC chairman and former Rajya Sabha member Dilip Tirkey.
Fazal stuns Akash
Fazal Ahmmed of Rajasthan stunned title favourite V Akash of Odisha in a men’s singles encounter of the All India International Carrom Tournament at Cuttack, Saturday.
In the junior boys’ event Bijay Dhaje of Goa defeated Budhadeba Mohanty of Odisha. In the women’s singles category Sanghamitra Diwedi of Odisha lost to Sandhya Ghosh of West Bengal.
Chess tourney
The Odisha State U-25 Chess Championship will be organised by Khurda District Chess Association (KDCA) under the aegis of All Odisha Chess Association here August 3-5, the organisers announced in a press release, Saturday. Top two players from the tournament will qualify for the National U-25 Chess Championship at Bhopal August 21-27.
