New Delhi: With around 40 lakh houses left to be built in only three months, the Centre is unlikely to achieve the target of building 99,95,825 houses under Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) this fiscal.
According to Rural Development Ministry, the PMAY-G was launched by Prime Minister November 20, 2016 under which a target was set to construct 1 crore houses over a period of three years from 2016-17 to 2018-19.
“As per data uploaded by the states/UTs on the MIS of PMAY-G, AwaasSoft, 54,35,134 houses have been completed till October 31, 2018 under PMAY-G,” said Rural Development Minister Narendra Singh Tomar.
The minister further informed the Lok Sabha that 60,25,797 houses have been completed till December 10 this year.
Similarly, a target of 9,92,558 houses has been set to achieve by 2018-19 in rural areas of Odisha. However, the Rural Development Ministry said that 6,63,388 houses have been constructed till October this year and 7,09,507 houses completed by December 10.
Shockingly, not even a single house was constructed in Goa, Nagaland, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep till December 10, though it was proposed to build 761 houses in Goa, 8,481 in Nagaland, 972 in Andaman and Nicobar Islands and 57 in Lakshadweep.
Notably, PMAY-G, previously Indira Awaas Yojana, is a social welfare flagship programme, created by the Union government, to provide housing for the rural poor in country.
