Bhubaneswar: Tamando police arrested a 20-yearold habitual offender in connection with a chain-snatching case reported near a temple at Small Market Complex in Tamando, officials said Sunday.
The accused has been identified as Deepak Das alias Kalia of Jajpur district.
According to police, the incident took place around 11.50 am August 5 when complainant Ambika Saran Mahapatra was travelling on a scooter with his wife Anusaya Giri and minor son from Kalinga Vihar towards DN Regalia.
Two unidentified miscreants on a motorcycle approached them and snatched the chain.
During the investigation, police examined CCTV footage and established that it was a preplanned crime.
Further investigation led to the arrest of Das.
“We have recovered two gold chains, a mobile phone and the motorcycle allegedly used in the crime from his possession.
The accused has been forwarded to the Court,” said a police official.
Police also said that Das is a habitual offender and has 10 criminal cases registered against him at different police stations.
Further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend his accomplice.
