Cuttack: Director general of police (DGP) KB Singh inaugurated the 64th professional championship of Orissa police at Buxibazar reserve police ground here Wednesday.
Singh said these kinds of championships help enhance the technical knowledge and skills of the police personnel. “At a time when crime graph is showing a rising trend, there is a need for scientific investigation and such kinds of championships will be of great help,” added the DGP.
According to sources, the three-day championship will showcase talents in various categories like photography, fingerprint, investigation through scientific process, skill in computer technology, cyber crime, medico-legal, police law and sections, sniffer dogs and inspections and other categories. The successful participants in the championship will take part in the All India police professional championship.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will grace the concluding day of the event as the chief guest, sources added.
“The championship will help in the skill development of the police personnel and officials,” said special DG (Crime) Bijay Kumar Sharma.
Sources said 160 participants from 37 police districts across the state and other organisations will take part in the event while 26 sniffer dogs from 18 units will showcase their talents. The participants include 28 inspectors, 37 sub-inspectors, 41 ASIs and 54 constables. Other senior police officials were also present during the inauguration of the event.
