The ongoing exhibition on Bahuda Brahma at Adi Art Gallery has acrylic paintings on wooden cutouts on display – a new concept in the state
Bhubaneswar, August 4: The ongoing art exhibition on Bahuda Brahma at Adi Art Gallery is getting a good response from visitors who are appreciating the works of veteran artists on display.
According to the theme of the exhibition, around 13 artists have created acrylic paintings on wooden cutouts which is a unique concept in Orissa. Instead of regular canvas, the artists have used wood. All of them have depicted the return of the deities to the temple after Rath Yatra.
Artist Asish Pandey has created an image of Lord Jagannath which gives the impression that the Lord is coming out from the core of a tree. The painting ideally is about the Nabakalebara ritual where new idols are carved out of the right kind of wood used in the ritual.
The excellent works of artists Gajendra Padhy, Tarakant Parida, Raghunath Sahoo, Sanjay Patnaik, Pradosh Swain, Rajesh Nayak, Priyadarshini Mohanty and others received appreciation from everyone.
Sashi Sekhar Samant who started Adi Art Gallery says, “I am an art lover and love to visit different art galleries. I thought of starting the gallery to give an opportunity to young talent.”
The gallery which is also the first online art gallery in the state buys the works of artists. “The gallery is not like other art galleries, as it is mostly an online art gallery. Apart from exhibited paintings regularly we are also going to sell the paintings online. The gallery will update new paintings every time and artists can sell their paintings easily,” says Samant.
About the painting exhibition he says, “The idea behind organising the exhibition with paintings made on wood cutouts was to create something new. We are planning to organise more such exhibitions with innovative ideas. All the paintings exhibited will be donated to UK Oriya Society where they will be exhibited.”
The exhibition which started Sunday will end August 8.
