Cheating case filed against tainted IFS officer Abhay Kant Pathak, son Akash

Bhubaneswar: Problems for the tainted father-son duo of Abhay Kant Pathak and Akash Pathak are increasing by the day. Now a travel agency has filed a cheating case against the two.

Travel agency ‘Sky King’ filed Tuesday an FIR at the Kharabela Nagar Police Station against Abhay and Akash. In the complaint the agency said that the father-son duo owes them over Rs 65 lakh. The money had been spent on chartered flights and reservations in luxurious hotels.

Speaking to mediapersons Wednesday, the travel agency’ managing partner Prabhas Choudhury said that Akash had booked 10 chartered flights and booked hotels through them on a number of occasions. The total cost for flights and hotel bookings was approximately rupees two crore and 78 lakh. Out of which, the company has received rupees two crore and 13 lakh. Choudhury also said that the agency had booked rooms in five star hotels in this city, Mumbai and Delhi for Akash. “Whenever we approached them to clear the dues, they threatened us with dire consequences,” Choudhury said.

Acting on the FIR lodged by the travel agency, Commissionerate Police has launched a separate probe into the matter. A police team reached the Sky King office Wednesday to examine the documents and collect evidence. It has been learnt that police have already seized several documents submitted by Akash at the agency.

Both Abhay and Akash have been remanded to judicial custody till December 9. The father-son duo was arrested November 27 by sleuths of the Vigilance Department on charges of accumulating massive ‘ill-gotten’ wealth.
