Chinmay, Anaam steal show

Bhubaneswar: Chinmay Pradhan and Anaam Almas emerged champions in the men’s and women’s categories respectively in the Gurukul Open Tennis Championships here Sunday. Anaam also combined with Ajay Nishank to clinch the mixed doubles title.

In a keenly-contested men’s segment final Chinmay defeated Kabir Hans 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-5). In the women’s category final Anaam prevailed over Ananya Yadav 6-1, 6-1.

Crown Sporting triumph

Crown Sporting emerged champions of the All India Nimapada Cup cricket tournament after scripting a 43-run win over Pragati Sporting in the final at Nimapada, Sunday.

Batting first, Crown Sporting scored 230 for six in their allotted 30 overs. Sandip Sethi (61 runs) and Dipti Mishra (51) scored wonderful half centuries while Debagrahi Kar (46) played a handy knock to help them go past 200-run mark. Pradip Pradhan (four wickets) was the standout among the Pragati Sporting bowlers.

In reply, Pragati Sporting were bowled out for 187 in 27.4 overs. Shantanu Mishra (53 runs) scored a brilliant half century while Soumya Sourav Kumar (40) supported him well. However, it was Kishan Rath (six wickets) who hogged the limelight with a magnificent six-wicket haul.
