Bhubaneswar: Chinmay Pradhan of Odisha emerged champion in the singles of the Gurukul AITA-OTA 50k Men’s Ranking tennis tournament defeating Arjun Mahadevan of Tamil Nadu 6-4, 6-2 in the finals here at the Gururkul tennis complex, Friday.
Chinmay who dominated opponents throughout the tournament was no different in the final as he hardly gave his rival any opening in the match.
Arjun did put up a good fight in the first set but it was not enough in front of an experienced Chinmay who broke his opponent’s serve once to it 6-4.
The 27-year-old Chinmay continued in the same vein in the second set too and it was a matter of time as he walked away with the title. He broke his rival twice in the second set demonstrating greater control over his groundstrokes.
It was sweet revenge for Chinmay who last week hhad lost in the final to Mahadevan in another 50K tournament played at the Mendhasal courts. In that match, Chinmay had made many unforced errors. However, Friday, the Odia lad played solid tennis to emerge and easy winner.
