Berhampur/Balasore/Bolangir: Hundreds of investors who have lost their hard-earned savings deposited in various chit fund companies staged agitations Friday in Ganjam, Bolangir and Balasore districts.
The protestors demanded quick investigations into the fraud cases and appropriate action against the accused.
They also demanded publication of a white paper on names of chit fund companies whose properties have been seized and sold and the amount of properties confiscated.
A delegation of the affected people gathered at Berhampur tehsil office and submitted a memorandum addressed to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
Reports from Balasore said people under the banner of Balasore Jamakari Milita Mancha (BJMM), staged protests in front of Balasore tehsil office, shouting slogans and holding placards and banners against the apathy of the district administration.
They demanded immediate return of their money from the corpus fund, quick identification of chit-fund victims through tehsils. They also demanded interests on the deposits made.
According to the protestors, thousands of victims in Balasore are still waiting even though chit fund companies where they had deposited their money had closed years back.
The Odisha government had earlier promised to identify the victims and return the money. However, the government seems to have forgotten the promise, the depositors alleged.
They agitators said they had invested their hard-earned money in several companies which ditched them. It was alleged that many victims are yet to be identified by the government.
They appealed to the government to take necessary steps for return of their money at the earliest.
