Bhubaneswar: Scientists from the ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (ICAR-CIFA) sensitised farmers in Kataka district on scientific methods of fish production, efficient resource use and diversification of aquaculture, an official statement said.
The awareness-cum-input support programme was organised at Nakhara village under the Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan (SCSP) scheme, with around 265 farmers, including 155 women, participating.
The CIFA scientific team, comprising principal scientists Chandrakanta Misra and Binod Choudhary, and scientists AS Mahapatra and Rakesh Das, discussed scientific fish production, quality seed, aquaculture diversification, ornamental fish farming and aquarium-based enterprises.
A farmer-scientist interaction was also held, with farmers raising issues related to fish farming and receiving technical solutions from the experts.
Assistant Fisheries Officer Karuniya Giridhary briefed participants on government schemes and programmes for fisheries and aquaculture development.
As part of the input support, 12,000 Jayanti Rohu fingerlings were distributed to two self-help groups, including 22 women farmers, and stocked in Garudeswar pond.
