Bhubaneswar: Residents of Koraput, Jeypore and Sunabeda will finally get a city bus service in their towns, sources in the housing and urban development (H&UD) department said here Sunday.
“The department has decided to roll out a city bus service on the Jeypore-Koraput-Sunabeda route soon to ensure provision of better transportation services to the people of Koraput, Jeypore and Sunabeda,” said an official of the department.
As many as 20 buses have been procured and sent to the towns and these will start rolling on the route that has been chalked out as soon as a private player has been engaged for this, he said.
The department has decided to extend the city bus service under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) to Koraput-Jeypore-Sunabeda belt April last year, sources said. However, later the Centre had scrapped the JNNURM, which resulted in delay in roiling out the service, they said.
“Now, the state has procured the buses with its own resources and soon the people of these places will get the bus service,” the official said.
The 26+1 seater buses have state-of-the-art Intelligent Traffic System (ITS) with GPS linkage. The system would help passengers know about the arrival, departure and position of the buses.
