Bhubaneswar: Class IX student of the ODM Public School Vaishnavi Patra received the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Ignite Award from President Pranab Mukherjee for her innovative project, ‘Watch with medicine delivery system’, at IIM Ahmadabad, recently. The project has implications for patients with diabetes and blood pressure as well as septuagenarians who have to take medicines on a daily basis.
Vaishnavi’s project, which was selected out of the many projects prepared by school students in the state, was also highly appreciated at IIT, Kharagpur. She received an award and a certificate from the president.
“I am really happy that my project was selected and accepted for utilisation in the service of mankind. Besides, receiving the award from the president of the country was a great honour and privilege. I am thankful to my teachers and parents for their valuable contributions and support in helping me with the project,” said Vaishnavi, daughter of Ranjit Kumar Patra and Silla Padmaja.
S Minaketan, chairman of ODM educational group, Indumati Ray, director of the managing committee, and BN Rout, academic counsellor appreciated Vaishnavi’s effort and lauded her for bringing laurels to the state. They wished her a bright future. The school authorities also conveyed their thanks to Maheswar Mahal, a senior teacher of the school who helped Vaishnavi with her project.
The Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Ignite Award aims at encouraging young talents of India to come up with innovative ideas. This year, the National Innovation Foundation selected 31 projects prepared by students from across the country that were deemed the most innovative.
