Bhubaneswar: The Regional Science Centre (RSC), Bhubaneswar, a unit of the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) under the Ministry of Culture, celebrated National Space Day 2026 Sunday with a series of exhibitions, interactive sessions, astronomy activities and public-engagement programmes.
A major highlight of the event was the inauguration of the special exhibition, titled ‘India’s Journey in Space – From Bicycle to Stars’, which traces the evolution of India’s space programme from its humble beginnings to achievements in launch vehicles, satellites, planetary exploration and advanced space technologies.
Held under the national theme ‘Viksit Bharat: Innovating, Collaborating and Inspiring to Global Space Leadership’, the celebrations highlighted India’s journey in space exploration, technological self-reliance, innovation and its growing role in global space leadership.
The celebration provided students and visitors an opportuni ty to explore India’s inspiring journey in space while promoting scientific temper, curiosi ty and innovation among the younger generation.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Ashoke Kumar Rath, former Group Lead, Aeronautics Entity, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), ISRO, who attended the programme as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, Rath highlighted India’s technological progress in the space sector and encouraged students to nurture scientific curiosity, innovation and a spirit of exploration.
RSC also launched a special Globe Projection Show titled ‘Space Satellites: Past, Present & Future’, offering visitors an immersive experience of the evolution, applications and future possibilities of satellite technology.
Another major attraction was Space Expo’2026, which provided students a platform to showcase their scientific ideas and creativity related to space science.
The expo also facilitated interaction among students, visitors, science enthusiasts and experts.
The programme included a valedictory and prize distribution ceremony, where participants and winners of various space science-related activities organised by RSC were felicitated.
An interactive talk show on ‘Antariksh Mein Atmanirbhar ta’ was also organised in the second session conducted by Cosmologist and ISRO Space Tutor Shibesh Kumar Jas Pacif, focused on India’s journey towards self-reliance in space science and technology, emerging opportunities and the importance of innovation and scientific temperament among young Indians
