BHUBANESWAR: The Vagdevi Literature Trust is hosting a twoday multi-disciplinary and multilingual literary festival at Rail Sadan in Bhubaneswar beginning January 13.
Eminent writers, poets, academicians and scholars from Orissa and other parts of the country are expected to participate and discuss issues such as Women through Ages (Feminism), Tribal Folklore and Legends, Translation opportunities and Challenges and Literature in the age of globalization. Addressing newsmen, festival organiser Mamata Tripathy said three sessions are being conducted in three phases – A multi-lingual poetry session, a session dedicated to women poets and Vagdevi Literature Awards presentation. She said efforts are on to provide platform to tribal people by organising a live painting workshop and panel discussion on tribal poetry and writing. “We will conduct a photographic exhibition on feminism, thematic play on women and an evening of melodious Hindustani Classical music,”she added.
Tributes to scientist and freedom-fighter late Binod Kanungo will be paid on the occasion. Kanungo had single-handedly prepared an Odia encyclopaedia Jnanmandal. Trust director Mamata Tripathi, Alok Kanungo and Niranjan Padhi (retired IAS) were present at the press briefing organised at the Press Club of Odisha here. Eminent litterateurs Sitakant Mahapatra, Pratibha Ray, Arabinda Patnaik, Niranjan Padhi, Deepak Kanungo, Adyasha Das, Paramita Satpathy Tripathy, Trilok Chand Kaushik and Nishikant Mishra are part of the advisory panel for the event. In recent times, the city had hosted a two-day Bhubaneswar poetry festival from October 14 wherein literary bigwigs shares their thoughts about the prospect of literature. The Kalinga Literary Festival (KLF) had showcased more than 200 international and national speakers in July. A special edition of KLF titled ‘Mystic Kalinga’ is being planned for December 22 wherein Yogi Sadhguru and lyricist Sameer are expected to take part.
